Sustainability—our way into the future

As a social player, we at Messe München recognise our social and ecological responsibility. Sustainability is therefore firmly anchored in our corporate strategy.

We have committed to becoming CO2-neutral by 2030. That is 20 years earlier than envisaged in the Paris Climate Agreement and 10 years earlier than the target set by the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA).

To this end, we have developed a sustainability strategy tailored to the trade fair industry. With our holistic sustainability programme, we are continuously implementing projects to reduce CO2 emissions for Messe München.

We live sustainability for ourselves and our customers and actively promote it at our events.

Role model function

As a travel and leisure trade fair, we want to take responsibility and express the principle of sustainability in our actions. We want to set a good example and make f.re.e more sustainable in a continuous process. This ranges from the selection of materials and the handling of waste to motivating our exhibitors and visitors to act sustainably. Let's make f.re.e even more sustainable together.

Tourism and leisure activities have a special responsibility with regard to sustainability. At f.re.e, we promote this development by providing information on the various facets of sustainability and, in some cases, by highlighting sustainable offers. In addition, we focus on leisure activities that can also be realized in the local area. In this way, we make an important contribution to sustainability awareness among exhibitors and visitors.

Acting sustainably. The measures taken by f.re.e

As a travel and leisure trade fair, we don't just want to set an example, we want to lead by example.

Our focal points are:

Climate-friendly exhibition stand construction

  • In order to conserve resources, we have decided to not use aisle carpets anymore.
  • We produce our stages and activity areas from sustainable, resource-saving materials.
  • We enable our exhibitors to book a CO2-neutral exhibition stand directly from our partner meplan. The "WOODï" system makes the exhibition stand even more sustainable, because "WOODï" saves resources and offers maximum flexibility in stand planning.

Environmentally friendly infrastructure

  • f.re.e is easily accessible by public transport to ensure an environmentally friendly journey for exhibitors and visitors.
  • You can conveniently charge your electric vehicle at almost 110 charging stations on the exhibition grounds.
  • Sustainable waste disposal: We take the waste resulting from construction and dismantling to be recycled as commercial waste. Recyclable materials can thus be fed back into the economic cycle.

Sustainable advertising materials

  • We reduce our print circulations and are constantly optimizing our digital advertising media. For example, we are no longer printing an exhibition catalogue for the fair, but only a visitor guide with a much smaller volume.
  • We only use FSC-certified environmental paper for our printed advertising materials.
  • We print our print materials in a climate-neutral way.
  • We consciously work with printing companies that are committed to the principle of sustainability.

Valuable partnerships

  • Our catering suppliers rely on local supply chains.
  • This year at f.re.e, we are presenting the partner region of Upper Bavaria. Which offers perfect excursion destinations by public transport, especially with its 150 "GeHEIMATorten". Additionally the opportunity to explore the region via the many cycle paths also favours sustainable tourism. Find out about the many possibilities in Hall A5 (Stand 401/402).
  • The Bavarian Centre for Tourism (BZT) supports us on the topic of sustainability and provides expert input for our sustainability initiative in Hall A5 (Stand 131).

Visit sustainably

Sustainability is a mission that we can only realise together. We will help you to organise your visit to f.re.e in the most environmentally friendly way possible. With our tips, you can significantly improve your personal eco-balance. Because for each individual it is only a small step. Together, it's a long way.

Here you will find tips on how you can organise your visit sustainably:

  • Travel sustainably by public transport
  • Or form car pools if you are travelling by car.
  • Green refuelling on site: 110 stations are available on the exhibition grounds for charging your electric vehicle.
  • Use our digital trade fair ticket on your mobile phone and save paper.
  • Bring reusable cups or bottles with you, which you can refill free of charge at our water stations.
  • Choose regional, seasonal and, ideally, vegetarian dishes and meals. This will save CO₂.
  • Talk to exhibitors and collect catalogues and offers in digital form using QR codes.
  • If at all, only take sustainable or environmentally friendly giveaways from the trade fair.
  • Avoid unnecessary waste.

Exhibiting sustainably

Trade shows are the platforms of the future. During the trade show days, experts from all over the world gather to offer their future technologies, discuss approaches to solutions and enter into new collaborations. Events of this magnitude have enormous value for the economy. At the same time, we must be aware: Greenhouse gas emissions are released at every event. Together with partners, we have set out to develop measures for a more sustainable trade show industry and to fulfill our social responsibility. After all, sustainability and climate protection must be actively lived - this also includes a sustainable trade show presence.

If you use your time on site specifically and intensively for personal meetings, you save yourself the individual journey to customers, partners and service providers. During your trade fair presence at f.re.e 2024, you will also have further opportunities to avoid emissions, save raw materials and protect the environment.

Here you will find tips on how to make your trade fair presentation sustainable:

  • Make sure you use sustainable and resource-saving materials for your stand construction. Talk to your stand constructor about sustainable stand construction options. With "WOODï", our partner meplan offers you a stand concept that impresses with regional production and environmentally friendly features, among other things.
  • Travel sustainably by public transport
  • Or form car pools if you are travelling by car.
  • Green refuelling on site: 110 stations are available on the exhibition grounds for charging your electric vehicle.
  • You do not need to bring a printed ticket with you! It is sufficient to scan the digital ticket on your mobile phone at the entrance.
  • Present your sustainable products and offers at your stand so that they are visible to visitors.
  • Check whether the number of printed advertising materials can be reduced and focus more on digital catalogues and offers.
  • Good printing: Make sure you work with print shops that are committed to the principle of sustainability and use FSC-certified environmental paper.
  • Climate-conscious catering: Reduce meat dishes and focus on regional and seasonal ingredients. Talk to your caterer about how food waste can be reduced.
  • Use reusable crockery for your stand catering.
  • Reduce your waste production and pay attention to waste separation during set-up and dismantling at f.re.e
  • Decide whether you really need giveaways. If so, opt for sustainably and fairly produced giveaways that your customers can use for as long as possible.
