Final Report for f.re.e – The new C-B-R 2010

f.re.e – The New C-B-R – Concept Scores Points Again

  • More than 100,000 visitors
  • More than 1,500 very satisfied exhibitors
  • Experience and active character very popular
  • "Bicycle" and "Wellness" areas were big hits

Even the best weather for outings on Sunday did not keep people from visiting their experience and adventure trade fair f.re.e. f.re.e - The new C-B-R, which took place on the Munich Trade Fair grounds from 18 until 22 February, finished up with more than 100,000 guests and satisfied looks of visitors and exhibitors.

"The concept of this second f.re.e was a total success," Managing Director of Messe München Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer stated. "Following the good new start last year, visitors gave us even better grades. We were also able to record considerably increased exhibitor satisfaction."
The concept was called very successful. Although f.re.e is basically a tourism trade fair, to which various topics in the area of recreation are linked, it also has many active areas and show courses that visitors can experience live. Especially the "Bicycle" and "Wellness" areas were enormous attractions this time. The exhibitors were completely enthusiastic about so much popularity. There were also a great number of visitors in the water sports area and the caravan hall.

The topic "Horse", which took place for the second time at f.re.e, was able to attract numerous visitors thanks to an extraordinary supporting program, e.g., the selection of "Germany’s Next Western Girl".
The fact that f.re.e is a take-part and adventure trade fair especially distinguishes this event and is also reflected positively in the visitor survey.

A total of 89% (!) of the visitors gave the trade fair top grades (2009: 85%).
f.re.e visitors especially found the supporting program to be very good, which was more comprehensive than ever with almost 800 events, in part with top-rate participants.

72% of the visitors said that they made purchases or bookings at f.re.e or intended to do it.

The exhibitors also praised the concept; 82% rated f.re.e excellent to good (2009: 77%) More than 85% of the exhibitors stated that the trade fair worked very professionally with respect to service and information. 73% asserted that they reached their visitor target groups.

A partner country outside of Europe contributed oriental flair to the Munich trade fair halls for the first time with Tunisia. Naceur Mani, Director of the Tunisian Tourism Agency: "As this year's partner country of f.re.e, we noticed clearly that the advertising measures bore fruit. “We had a fantastic number of visitors at our stand and are more than thrilled."

The visitors were able to get to know numerous VIPs and prominent guests from politics and sports personally. The spontaneous guest appearance of the FC Bayern football team player Ivica Olic created a great rush of people at the stand of Croatia in Hall B5, for example. Many politicians such as the Bavarian Economics and Tourism Minister Martin Zeil were glad to have the chance to look around f.re.e personally.

Tourism trade visitors had the chance to obtain further training on Monday at the trade fair in workshops held by the Germany Travel Association or during the "Tourism Dialogue".

The next f.re.e – The new C-B-R will take place on the grounds of the New Munich Trade Fair Centre from 23 to 27 February 2011. The fair will run from Wednesday up to and including Sunday.

Exhibitor opinions about f.re.e 2010 – The new C-B-R (alphabetical according to company names)

Argos Yachtcharter und Touristik GmbH, Graduated Engineer Cengiz Inceören
A grade of "good" for the new trade fair concept. I am very satisfied with the course of the trade fair, because I was able to cultivate customer relations very well. The good standard absolutely should be maintained for the next f.re.e.

ADFC, Wolfgang Slama
The concept of f.re.e has proven itself absolutely in the second year and consequently confirmed it. For ADFC and its partners, the special feature at f.re.e is that visitors can experience, try out and test bicycles, equipment and accessories live. Another good feature of f.re.e for the bicycle sector is the time of the trade fair, which is scheduled ideally both for suppliers and customers. The fact that the topic of bicycles and bicycle tourism continues to be very fashionable was clearly recognizable at f.re.e thanks to the enormous demand of a very interested public. Consequently, an even larger and more wide-ranged offer at f.re.e 2011 would be desirable to serve the great demand and strong interest in the topic of bicycles.

Bavarian-Volleyball, Association BVV Roland Höfer
Very good concept. I like the fact that visitors can actively take part in f.re.e. I believe that beach volleyball enriched f.re.e, and we were able to promote beach volleyball quite a lot. For the next f.re.e, I would like more presentation stands such as stands for cocktails, beachwear and beach volleyball camps.

Blue Planet, Dieter Reisenauer
f.re.e is the best travel trade fair in Germany. We had an enormous number of visitors at our stand, who were interested in trips to Namibia. f.re.e is the greatest trade fair in general.

Caravan Centre Erding, A. Hartmann
The concept is good. A larger number of potential customers are addressed thanks to the new name "f.re.e".

ENIT, Italian Head Office for Tourism, Leonardo Campanelli
I have the impression that the name f.re.e has become a commonly known term in the meantime. The new concept seems to be successful. There were many visitors again this year, and we are very satisfied.

ERZ Reisemobile, Elia Akkawi
I find the new concept of f.re.e good. We are satisfied with the course of the trade fair. There were a lot of visitors at the fair. We don't have any further suggestions for the next f.re.e.

Freizeit AG, Andreas Binder
The concept is a great success, especially because the visitors were also able to obtain information about other topic areas. We as Freizeit AG had the largest stand in Hall B4 and were satisfied with the course of the fair. We were even able to sell larger quantities than in the previous year.

Frosch Touristik GmbH, Sabine Lechner
We like f.re.e very much, and the topics travel, leisure time and recreation go together much better than the previous Caravan, Boat and Travel. We are satisfied with the general course of the trade fair. We had many visitors at our stand, who wanted to discuss with us and get advice.

Geldhauser – Munich Bus Tours, Franz Gerstmayr
The concept is OK and fits very well. Main thing is that lots of people come. We found Thursday and Friday very good during the course of the trade fair.

Greek Head Office for Tourism, Nikos Miliotis
The concept of f.re.e corresponds to what we have in mind. The course of the trade fair fulfilled our expectations.

Hapag-Lloyd, Andreas Leippert
We like the new concept of f.re.e. It is structured better and was also publicized well. We are satisfied with the course of the trade fair. We were able to recognize the willingness of visitors to make bookings and could establish contacts. Our suggestions for the next f.re.e are to provide additional rooms for talks and a more international catering. Different halls for different genres and travel types would be another suggestion.

Ostallgäu Tourism, Christian Hief
A very good concept. We like the distribution of space and the clear arrangement of topics.

Horse and Rider, Annegret Jaath
The link of horse trade fair and travel trade fair is ideal for us as tour operator for horseback riding. As a result, we reach a group of customers, who are not necessarily satisfied at the pure horse trade fairs we attend. However, the circle of exhibitors has to be expanded for the long-term success of the horse area.

riese und müller, Thomas Huyer
We were able to record good and numerous contacts on the first two trade fair days. Our electric bicycles were in big demand, and our classic foldable bicycle "Birdy" continues to be very popular in the Munich region. As a result, we are satisfied with the course of the trade fair. We suggest for 2011 not to have the curve so sharp on the test course for bicycles in Hall A6.

Glässer Diving Sports, Torsten Gläßer
I like the new concept of f.re.e very much; only the time of the trade fair is wrong in my opinion. April would be better, because customers already have a spring or holiday feeling in them. I find the presentation and integration of other water sports especially good. My suggestion for f.re.e 2011 is to put the caravans and boats together in one hall.

Therme Erding, Marcus Maier
We are totally enthusiastic about the new concept of f.re.e. Really tops. We are very satisfied. We recorded a great deal interest and had more interested visitors. The trade fair staff also supported us very well. Thank you again for that.

Torqeedo, Oliver Koppenburg
Good concept with good presentation for various focal points. I would like a stronger exhibition, especially in the boat sector, at the next f.re.e. More synergies, e.g., trailers, engines and accessories. This greater concentration would also attract larger target groups for other topics too.

Munich Tourism Association – Upper Bavaria, Franz Reil
The concept is very good, because the recreation and adventure area are emphasized, especially the bicycle area. We are satisfied with the course of the trade fair, and the interest of visitors remains substantial. We would like to express our praise to the project management for the good organization.

Tunisian Tourism Agency, Naceur Mani
I also find that the new concept of f.re.e provides a great impetus. We liked it very much. It is always good to do something new. This is a benefit for the visitors, for the trade fair and of course for us, the exhibitors. We were already always very satisfied at C-B-R and are so now at f.re.e too.

Veelo Pedelecs, Ewald Hödl
A successful concept in all aspects. A very beautiful hall design, attractive "goings-on all around" and a perfect infrastructure. We are very satisfied with the course of the fair. There was a very good ambience, and we had friendly, interested visitors at our stand. We are looking forward to f.re.e 2011; keep up the good work!

Visit USA, Florian Renner
Good concept. The trade fair is more attractive for young and old as a result. The visitors were considerably younger compared to 2007 and 2008, which we consider a very good thing. We are very satisfied with the course of the trade fair. We had lots of visitors of high quality at our stand. We did not have a weak day.

Winora, Wolfgang Kammerer
The concept of f.re.e is very good, because the new C-B-R attracts a wide range of customers.  We are very satisfied with the course of the trade fair. We were able to detect a lot of visitor interest.
